Obamacare Repeal Votes Coming Up Short


House Speaker Paul Ryan signaled to GOP members Tuesday that the leadership still does not have the votes to pass a bill to repeal Obamacare.

Ryan told his rank-and-file members in a closed-door conference meeting that when the votes are there, he will put the bill on the floor, in an implicit admission that the majority of 216 votes that he needs to ensure passage is not yet in place, one member inside the meeting told CNN.

Leaders urged members to approach them or their whip teams to come up with ways to get more “yes” votes, the member said.

The meeting took place on a fateful day for the GOP’s efforts to jam an Obamacare repeal bill through the House, as they try to offload the problematic legislation to the Senate and the White House frantically seeks a major win for President Donald Trump.
