What Will It Take to Finally Indict Planned Parenthood?

Despite mounting evidence that Planned Parenthood is breaking the law, their staff never face consequences. How long will we allow this, as a country, in the service of abortion?/strong>

In another deeply disturbing and upsetting video from the Center for Medical Progress, Planned Parenthood affiliates, and other abortion providers, are caught on camera describing in grisly detail how they dismember fetuses, not only to skirt a federal ban on partial-birth abortion, but to continue harvesting organs to sell for medical research. You can read the report here. Warning: it is graphic, and may be disturbing to some readers.

No, it will be disturbing to readers, and the own words of Planned Parenthood affiliates should not only enrage people who are pro life, but should give pause and inspire genuine reflection in those who support abortion as a necessity for women.

Dr. Lisa Harris of Planned Parenthood of Michigan, utterly destroys the left’s insistence that abortion doesn’t end a human life. She acknowledges that abortion is not only violent, but that “it’s a person, it’s killing.”

Dr. Ann Schutt-Aine of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast talks about how she skirts the federal ban on partial-birth abortions (emphasis added), “If I’m doing a procedure, and I’m seeing that I’m in fear that it’s about to come to the umbilicus [navel], I might ask for a second set of forceps to hold the body at the cervix, and pull of a leg or two, so it’s not PBA [partial-birth abortion]. Schutt-Aine not only admits she fears breaking the law, she speaks callously about dismembering an almost-born baby. About ripping off the baby’s limbs, to get around performing a partial-birth abortion, which is banned under federal law. Another provider, Dr. Leslie Drummond of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, talks about providing intact limbs to StemExpress, a biotech firm. However, other Planned Parenthoods do intact partial-birth abortions (also known as dilation and extraction or D&E), as admitted by Dr. Stacy De-Lin of Planned Parenthood of New York City and she knows it’s illegal under federal law. In a speech to a group of abortion providers, Dr. Uta Landy joked about a fetal eyeball falling into her lap, a comment that gets laughter from the crowd.

Dr. Susan Robinson says of abortion, “The fetus is a tough little object, and taking it apart, I mean, taking it apart on Day One is very difficult…You go in there [the uterus] and you go, ‘Am I getting the uterus or the fetus? Oh, good, fetus. What have I got? Nothing. Let’s try again.” (She punctuates her comments with stabbing sounds). How is this looking out for the health and safety of women? Robinson is clearly not concerned with being able to distinguish between the fetus and the woman’s uterus, and makes stabbing sounds to underscore her remarks. In fact, a primary source of trauma in abortion is from uterine perforation, so you would hope an abortion provider would be keenly aware of it, and working to avoid it.

You can see the other videos – going back to 2015 – on the Center for Medical Progress website.

If abortion is women’s health care, shouldn’t proponents of abortion be concerned by such flippant remarks? They’re not, precisely for the same reason abortion proponents bristle and oppose regulations that hold abortion clinics to standards comparable to other health facilities: they don’t care about women. They expect women who are harmed physically or mentally from abortion to shut up and take one for the team, to risk their health and future fertility in unsafe and unsanitary clinics, because the cause is more important than they are.

Shouldn’t they be concerned at the disregard for the dignity of women? Some leftists tell us abortion is a difficult choice for women (it is), so shouldn’t they be concerned about abortion providers provoking laughter with stories about fetal organs falling into their lap? Or how providers rip apart their babies to get around federal law? This laughter, these blunt and gruesome comments, have to be heart-wrenching for women to hear, especially if they had an abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility. But these women, do they matter? What happened to safe, legal, and rare? What happened to “women’s health”?

Some abortionists, and some of their supporters, care about two things: money and disposing of babies. For supporters, many of them want to have consequence-free sex, and they don’t care who they hurt in the process. For providers, there’s a great deal of money to be had in abortion. A significant portion of that money comes from taxpayers, who see that money recycled and donated back to politicians sympathetic to the abortion cause. Providers were caught on camera talking about using the funds procured from the sale of fetal organs to buy a Lamborghini.

When confronted with mounds of evidence, some on the left claim the videos are “deceptively edited”, and the reporters – doing standard investigative journalism – are indicted for crimes, while Planned Parenthood staffers who admitted to crimes on tape walk away, with no consequences.

Planned Parenthood breaks the law; this is beyond question. There is ample video footage to back up this claim. The question is: what are we going to do about it?

Even if you support abortion, or are neutral on the issue, there is a lot of common ground here with pro lifers. You should be troubled by the behavior exhibited by Planned Parenthood officials and providers. Women deserve better than to have their babies sold for parts, and to have their abortion experience become fodder for jokes at a conference. They deserve safe, clean, facilities and competent, compassionate staff that doesn’t break federal law in pursuit of profits. Together we can hold both the Planned Parenthood staff, and the politicians, who enable them accountable to the women and children they’ve harmed.
